Instagram Account Types

Instagram offers three main types of accounts: Personal accounts, Business accounts, and Creator accounts.

Each type of account is tailored to different user needs and goals. And Instagram provides different types of data and insights for personal, creator, and business accounts. The data provided caters to the specific needs and goals of each account type.

Here’s an overview of the data available for each type of account and how it differs.

Personal Account

  • A personal account is the most basic type of Instagram account.
  • It’s ideal for individuals who want to use Instagram for personal use, social networking, and sharing personal photos and videos.
  • Personal accounts don’t provide in-depth analytics or special features for businesses or creators.
  • Users with personal accounts can set their account to private, making their content visible only to approved followers.

Data Available in a Personal Account

  • Personal accounts receive basic insights, such as the number of likes and comments on their posts, as well as the number of views on their Stories.
  • They can see who has liked and commented on their posts.
  • Personal accounts don’t have access to in-depth analytics, audience demographics, or data related to the performance of their content beyond the basic engagement metrics.
  • Limited access to features for monetization, brand collaborations, and promoting posts or products.

There are two types of professional accounts:

Instagram Business Account

  • A business Instagram account is designed for businesses and organizations to establish a professional presence on Instagram. It’s the first professional Instagram account type created.
  • It offers additional features and tools, including Instagram Insights (analytics) and the ability to run advertising campaigns.
  • With a business account, you can add contact information like a phone number, email, and physical address for easy customer contact.
  •  Business accounts also provide the option to add action buttons, such as “Call,” “Email,” or “Directions,” making it easier for users to engage with your business.
  • You can schedule posts with third-party tools if you have a business account.
  • You can access more in-depth data about your followers and post performance, helping businesses make data-driven decisions.

Data Available in a Business Account

Business accounts have access to Instagram Insights, which provides detailed analytics about the performance of their content, including metrics like reach, impressions, engagement, and growth.

  •   They can see demographics data about their followers, including age, gender, location, and when they are most active.
  •  Business accounts can add action buttons to their profile, allowing users to contact them via phone, email, or get directions.
  •  They have the ability to promote posts as advertisements to reach a wider audience.
  •  Business accounts can schedule posts using third-party tools.
  • Access to Instagram’s shopping features, which allow businesses to tag products in their posts and stories for direct shopping.

Creator Account:

  • A creator account is designed for influencers, content creators, and public figures.
  • It offers features that are specifically useful for those who want to grow their personal brand, build their online presence, and collaborate with brands.
  • Creator accounts offer detailed insights about your content’s performance, audience demographics, and follower growth trends.
  • Control your DM filtering to manage collaboration requests and messages more effectively.
  • It provides access to branded content tools, allowing influencers to disclose paid partnerships and collaborations more easily.

Data Available in a creator account

  • Creator accounts have access to Instagram Insights, similar to business accounts, but with some additional features for content creators.
  • See detailed data about their followers, audience demographics, and the performance of their content.
  • Creator accounts can filter and manage their Direct Messages more effectively.
  • They have access to branded content tools, which allow influencers to disclose paid partnerships and collaborations more easily.
  • Influencers and content creators can access features for promoting branded content and collaborations, making it easier to work with brands.

What type of account should you have?

The choice between a personal, business, or creator account on Instagram depends on your goals. How you intend to use the platform? And how do you intend to monetize it? (if that’s one of your goals.)

For individuals sharing personal content, a personal account is likely sufficient.

If you’re a business, the business account offers tools and analytics to help you grow. And if you’re an influencer or content creator, a creator account is tailored to your specific needs, including insights and brand collaboration features.

The good news is that you can easily switch between these account types in your Instagram settings. I did this when the creator account type came out so i could see if that was a better fit for me personally.

In summary: Business and creator accounts on Instagram receive more extensive analytics and insights compared to personal accounts. This helps them reach their Target audience, make decisions for impacting engagement rate. It can also help them understand the best type of content.

How to See Who Saved Your Instagram Post

As of my knowledge in October 2023, Instagram doesn’t provide a built-in feature that allows you to see a list of people who saved specific Instagram posts. This might be because of privacy reasons of Instagram users.

It DOES show you the save count, which is the number of people that save the post.

To reiterate: To date, Instagram only provides general statistics such as the total number of saves your post has received. However, it doesn’t reveal the identities of the users who have saved your post.

Viewing Save Number Count and Check Instagram Insights

While there’s no answer to the question of how to see who saved your Instagram post, you CAN check the number of saves.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to check the total number of saves on your Instagram post:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your mobile device.
  2. Go to your profile by tapping on your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
  3. Find and tap on the specific post for which you want to check the saves.
  4. On the bottom left corner of the post, you’ll see the text link “view insights”
  5. Click this to see the number of saves, which is the number to the far right with the ribbon looking icon

What really matters

Of course, the REASON you want saves in the first place matters more than the saves, and who saved it.

On Instagram, various metrics and factors matter more than just the number of saves (bookmarks) on a post. Especially when it comes to assessing the overall impact and engagement of your content.

What is your goal on Instagram? My guess is that it relates to either branding, monetizing a large audience as an influencer, or getting people to a website.

For example…

So, instead of saves, consider your END goal, and the following…

Types of Reactions

Likes (Hearts): The number of likes is a fundamental indicator of engagement. It shows how many users appreciated your content by double-tapping the image or video.

Comments: Comments indicate that users took the time to engage with your content and share their thoughts, questions, or feedback. Meaningful interactions can boost your visibility on Instagram.

Engagement Rate: The engagement rate is a key metric calculated by dividing the total engagement (likes + comments + shares) by the number of followers. A high engagement rate indicates that your content resonates with your audience.

Impressions, Reach And Growth

Reach and Impressions: Reach refers to the number of unique accounts that have seen your content, while impressions represent the total number of times your content has been viewed. These metrics help gauge your content’s visibility.

Follower Growth: Tracking the growth of your follower count over time can be an essential indicator of your content’s appeal and how well you are attracting and retaining new followers.

Content

Stories Views: For content in Instagram Stories, the number of views is crucial. It shows how many people watched your Stories, and you can use interactive features within Stories to engage your audience.

Content Quality: The quality and relevance of your content are paramount. High-quality visuals, engaging captions, and content that resonates with your target audience are more important than any specific metric.

Ultimately, the success of your Instagram presence depends on a combination of factors, including the quality of your content, the level of engagement, and how well you understand and cater to your target audience. While the number of saves is one element of engagement, it’s important to consider a broader range of metrics to evaluate your Instagram strategy effectively.

Here’s what you can do to get a general idea of how well your post is doing and encourage more engagement without knowing who saved it…

Increasing Visibility on Instagram

Create short form video:

In 2023, this is one of the best strategies for increasing your overall reach and potential.

Engage with Comments:

While you can’t see who saved your post, you can engage with users who comment on it. Responding to comments can encourage more interactions with your content and help build a stronger connection with your audience.

Use Instagram Stories:

f you want to share content with specific people and track who interacts with it, consider using Instagram Stories. You can see who viewed your Stories and even use features like polls and questions to engage with your audience directly.

Community:

Messaging, conversation and community is a great way to boost your reach and engagement. You can encourage your followers to engage with your content by asking questions, running contests, or prompting them to save posts if they find them valuable. However, you won’t be able to see individual users who save your posts.

Closing

Please note that Instagram’s features and policies may change over time, so it’s a good idea to check Instagram’s official help center or community guidelines for the latest information on this topic.
