And then I started wondering if I could possibly turn blogging into a career. The blog is generating traffic and I have content that people are reading. And I have started to get a taste of how I can make money from my blog.

If you are going to turn your blog into a career, you are going to have to narrow down exactly who your audience is. It is tempting to not want to exclude anyone, I know.

But the truth is that if you want to be a professional, you will have to specialize in something, And to do that you have to be specific. You can’t be everything to everyone. The goal is to e the person someone thinks of when they need the thing that you have.

Get Plugged In

The blogging community is a huge, supportive community. And the best way to avoid mistakes is to learn from other people’s.

Bloggers are helpful people who typically want to offer their knowledge to others and be helpful. Yes, they will charge for specialty services. But you can save yourself a lot of time and mistakes by learning from bloggers who are willing to share info.

Take advantage of freebies. Download those email templates: they’re actually really valuable! Free courses, webinars, support groups for bloggers where you can ask questions and offer information… These are the places you want to sek out as a professional blogger.

Make Your Website Awesome

If your website is outdated and a little wonky it;s time to update. This might seem overwhelming if you have some content to move over, but it’s not that big of a deal and it is absolutely necessary. Luckily there are resources out there that make setting up a new website really simple. I recommend using WordPress and one of their free themes. They’re gorgeous and require little to know tech knowledge to customize.

If people do not know what you are doing, you will not be able to provide or sell anything to them. The first step is to let people know what you are doing. Talk about your blog. Talk about your success. Let people know you started making money from your site. Be open and start establishing yourself as a resource in your niche by word of mouth.

Secondly make sure your contact info is readily available. You should have all your social media accounts linked, have social sharing buttons on your site and have easy to find contact info on your website.

Blogging is an online game, and it’s going to come with a lot of tech skills. I honestly did not know what I was getting into when I started blogging, but I have developed so many necessary skills over time, and now I’m a full stack marketer with a profitable blog and second online business that enabled me to quit my full time job.

A lot of these skills might just come as you go. You won’t know you need them until you need them. Or you can be proactive and take guidance from someone before you. There are thousands of valuable courses out there to teach you different skills that you will need to develop as a blogger.
